Overview
The sprinkler is the most widely used water-based system, automatically suppressing or controlling fire at its point of origin. A-Pro designs hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing and sprinkler layout by hazard class per TS EN 12845 and NFPA 13.

Automatic Actuation

System types
Wet Pipe Sprinkler
Pipes are permanently filled with pressurised water; water discharges the instant a head opens. The most common type in heated, non-freezing spaces.
Dry Pipe Sprinkler
Pipes hold pressurised air/nitrogen; when a head opens the air vents and water follows. Used in freeze-prone areas such as car parks and cold stores.
Preaction
Water enters the pipes only when both detection and a sprinkler head are confirmed. Ideal for data centres and archives where accidental discharge is critical.
Deluge
All heads are open; on detection the entire zone is flooded simultaneously. Used for high fire-load industrial hazards.

How does a sprinkler system work?+
Each sprinkler head opens at a set temperature and delivers water only to the fire area; not all heads open at once.
Which buildings require it?+
Hotels over 100 rooms/200 beds/21.50 m, malls over 2,000 m², enclosed car parks over 600 m² and non-residential buildings over 30.50 m are key examples (Article 96).
What is the difference between wet and dry pipe sprinklers?+
Wet systems keep pipes water-filled for instant discharge; dry systems keep pipes air-filled and are preferred in freeze-prone spaces.
Can a sprinkler head trigger by accident?+
Heads open only when they reach their threshold temperature (typically 68 °C); they do not self-trigger without a heat rise. Preaction systems add further protection against accidental discharge.
How much water damage does a sprinkler cause?+
Because only the head in the fire zone opens, water damage is far more limited than a fire-hose stream, and the fire is controlled at an early stage.
