
State campuses are buildings that demand prestige and continuity: fire safety must leave room for neither interruption nor a visible intrusion. On the Presidential Complex project, A-Pro Engineering undertook two critical suppression layers across the campus: gas suppression systems protecting the critical technical spaces, and kitchen hood suppression systems protecting the commercial kitchens — turnkey, including electro-mechanical infrastructure works.
Two Different Risks, Two Different Systems
On a large campus fire risk is not uniform; each space demands its own solution:
- Critical technical spaces (server/data rooms, switchboard and UPS rooms) — cannot be extinguished with water; they need residue-free, electrically non-conductive clean-agent gas suppression.
- Commercial kitchens — high-temperature cooking-oil (Class K/F) fires cannot be safely extinguished with water or a standard gas; they need NFPA 96-based hood suppression.

Gas Suppression: Central + Single-Zone
Because the number of spaces to protect across the campus is large, the solution was designed around two architectures:
- Single-zone systems — protect one critical space independently with its own cylinder bank.
- Central systems — protect multiple spaces from a shared agent store via selector valves; efficient and manageable in large, multi-space buildings.
Each space’s volume, integrity and hazard class were evaluated separately to size the agent quantity and discharge scenario; a pre-discharge delay, audible-visual warning and manual stations were integrated for personnel safety.
Kitchen Hood Suppression (NFPA 96)
In commercial kitchens, fire most often starts on the hood and cooking surface. These zones were protected with a wet-chemical automatic suppression system: nozzles over the hood, exhaust duct and cooking appliances discharge the agent when detection is triggered, and simultaneously shut off the gas/power supply. This both extinguishes the oil fire and prevents re-ignition.
Turnkey Electro-Mechanical Delivery
On a prestige campus, delivery demands not only technical but aesthetic and operational precision. A-Pro carried the project from a single source:
- Engineering design — per-space calculation, central/single-zone architecture and kitchen protection design.
- Procurement — gas agent and cylinder banks, selector valves, wet-chemical kitchen systems, detection and control panels.
- Electro-mechanical works — pipework, support systems, electrical and control wiring.
- Installation — equipment installation in the spaces and kitchens, respecting architectural integrity.
- Testing and commissioning — integrity, functional and scenario tests.
Outcome
At the Presidential Complex, two distinct fire risks — critical technical spaces and commercial kitchens — were secured with their own correct systems, coordinated across the whole campus and delivered turnkey.
